Dog Days Swim - September 21, 2012

Dogs around the Oroville area are practicing their dog paddle strokes and searching for floating toys, all in preparation for our upcoming Dog Swim Days! Just as our local swimming pools across are closing for the summer season, lucky dogs are invited to splish, splash and frolic in the pool before it’s drained for the season. At our event, there’s more than just swimming and socializing – you’ll find games and contests.

Many Thanks to All Who Participated in the Feather River Cleanup

More than 150 Volunteers and Community Leaders Make A Difference At The First Feather River Cleanup
A Community Effort to Beautify the Feather River

Oroville, CA- On Saturday July 28th, 2012, over 150 volunteers and community leaders joined forces to clean the banks of the Feather River in the first annual Feather River Cleanup.
This event was co-organized by the Feather River Recreation and Park District, Butte Environmental Council, the Feather River Nature Center, California Department of Water Resources, and several local area businesses. We would really like to thank all of the volunteers that met at Bedrock Park, Centennial Plaza, or Feather River Nature Center to clean along the river between the Diversion Dam and the Highway 162 Bridge. Recology estimated that cleanup efforts removed 3,400 pounds (or 1.7 tons) of trash, debris, and recyclable objects from the river and its banks, just in time for our returning salmon to spawn.

After the Cleanup, volunteers were treated to a great assortment of raffle prizes donated by our community. Some volunteers stayed for a free barbeque and music at the monthly Church in the Park, which takes place the last Saturday of every month and is hosted by Victory Christian Fellowship Church. FRRPD donated money to the Church in the Park event to cover the cost of the cleanup volunteers.

I look forward to doing it again next year, and hopefully it will keep getting bigger.” - Scott Perkins, CEO of FRRPD. In future years, we hope to see the event spread all the way to the Thermalito Afterbay Outlet.

We are extremely grateful to our community supporters. This event would not have been possible without the following sponsors: Recology, Oroville Hospital, City of Oroville, Butte County/Bill Connelly (Dist. 1 Supervisor), California Conservation Corps, and the local Rotary clubs.
